World War II or WW2 is a historic global military conflict which lasted from 1939 to 1945. The conflict was a result of Nazi Germany and the Axis Powers committing the Holocaust against millions of Jewish and Romani peoples which included segregation, genocide, and slave-labour before attempting to conquer more land. Their proponents were the Allied powers who ultimately won the war. Jewish comic-book artist and writer Jack "The King" Kirby was an advocate for 1930s America to join World War II, having co-created the character of Captain America as a call to action against the Holocaust, with the first issue showing Cap punching Hitler in the face (prior to the USA becoming aligned with the Allies). Kirby himself would go on to serve as a scout in World War II, making use of his illustration abilities. Many Marvel characters are connected to the war, and World War II serves as a frequently referenced event in Marvel's history.
