Bucky Barnes AKA The Winter Soldier is a Marvel Comics character. He was originally Captain America's sidekick before being presumed dead and becoming the assassin, the Winter Soldier.
History[]
World War II[]
Bucky Barnes was a US military sergeant who was best-friends with Steve Rogers, the soldier who became Captain America. Bucky became a loyal member of Captain America's team, "The Howling Commandos". In 1945, Bucky accompanied Cap in attacking a HYDRA mountain train and in the battle, he fell off the train into an icy river. Bucky went missing-in-action and was presumed dead.
Winter Soldier[]
Bucky was found by HYDRA and experimented on with a recreation of the super-soldier serum which made Captain America. His severed arm was replaced with a robotic one, his memories were removed, and he was placed in cryonic storage. Nicknamed, "The Winter Soldier", Bucky would be awoken to be used as an assassin for HYDRA such as when he killed Howard and Maria Stark in 1991.
Around 2014, the Winter Soldier crossed passed with Captain America whom he fought with. Winter Soldier would eventually have his humanity restored and become an ally of the Avengers.
