Hope Van Dyne is a superhero, known in films and theme-parks as the second incarnation of The Wasp.

History[]

Background[]

Hope van Dyne was the daughter of the original Ant-Man and the Wasp, Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne. As an adult, she became the director of her father's company Pym Technologies. When Hank hired ex-thief Scott Lang to become the new Ant-Man, he also gave Janet an updated version of the Wasp's suit. This suit allowed for her to fly with wings and shrink to extreme sizes with Pym Particles.

Ant-Man and the Wasp used their equipment to act as superheroes. They became affiliated with the Avengers and SHIELD because of this.

Stark Expo[]

Around 2010, Scott and Hope attended the Stark Expo in Hong Kong. Here, the expo was attacked by the forces of HYDRA, lead by Arnim Zola with an army of Hydraswarm-bots. Ant-Man and the Wasp shrunk down to stop Zola's nano-bots from stealing a valuable Data Core while Iron Man fought Zola's robots in the skies. They were assisted by SHIELD who deployed deputized members armed with EMP Blasters in shrunken-down Defense/Assault Ground Rovers. Ultimately, Ant-Man and the Wasp were successful in defeating Zola.

Avengers Campus[]

Inspired by this incident, Tony Stark began opening up superhero headquarters around the world. One was the Avengers Campus established in Orange, California, repurposed from an old Stark Industries base which already had a Stark Tech building. Here, Scott's daughter Cassie became a member of the Worldwide Engineering Brigade where she augmented Ant-Man and Wasp's gear while repurposing the PYM building into an experimental kitchen that used PYM particles to try and solve world hunger.

While at the campus, Cassie invited Hope and Scott to attend her tech demo at WEB's open house after Peter Parker's presentation. However, the Spider-Bots of WEB member Peter Parker got out of control and ravaged the Pym kitchens. Wasp was furious with Peter following this incident. Hope was also texted by Star-Lord and Gamora, requesting assistance in escaping the Collector's Fortress. Around the same time, Wasp was recruited by Tony to ask her for help in creating Avengers Campus Paris.

Quantum Encounter[]

Ant-Man and the Wasp would show of Pym Tech quantum tech used for food purposed aboard the Disney Wish. Here, Scott Lang accidentally temporarily shrunk the ship before they restored it to normal. Aboard this ship, they encountered Sam Wilson AKA Captain America who notified them of strange energy signals which turned out to be the ship being attacked by Ultron, seeking their quantum tech to wipe out humanity.

Wasp was called out to assist Captain America and Ms. Marvel in fighting off the Ultron sentries, during which time she leaped off Cap's shield as an attack. Captain Marvel then arrived, in the middle of a mission to fight off Kree missiles directed at Earth, and assisted them in talking down the robot army. Over her intercom system, Wasp assisted Ant-Man in coming up with ideas for fighting Ultron below deck, with her arriving right after Ant-Man and FRIDAY shrunk him down to a Quantum level.

After this, Ant-Man and the Wasp went to meet with attendees of the dinner, thanking them for their assistance (despite them having just sat there and eaten).

A note from Hope could be found, explaining PYM Tech's intentions in Avengers Campus. Her experiments with shrinking cargo could also be found.[1] Hope's statement read:

"After a multi-year hiatus, Pym Technologies is proud to join the Avengers Campus to re-establish our operations and share our revolutionary "Pym Particles" technology with the public.

When my father, Dr. Hank Pym, first discovered Pym Particles- particles that can shrink any object to the size of an insect or grow it to gigantic scale- he created suits so the heroes known as Ant-Man and the Wasp could use Pym Particles to become the perfect size for any mission. But that was just the beginning...

From sustainable shipping to recycling programs to innovations in food sciences and miniaturized farming, Pym Technologies is on a mission to find new ways of using Pym Particles to help the world"

Trivia[]

  • Hope's character does not originate from mainstream comics, instead coming from the alternate-universe of the, "MC2". In comics, the mainstream wasp is Janet van Dyne while Janet's daughter and successor is Nadia Van Dyne.

  • In Quantum Encounter, Wasp says, "Honey, you shrunk the ship" as a reference to the Disney film, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989).
  • Scott and Hope's Avengers technology showcase is called, "Miracles From Molecules", named for the theme-song of defunct Tomorrowland attraction Adventure Thru Inner Space. An instrumental of this theme-song plays.
