Dr. Jane Foster is a character from Marvel Comics who first appeared in Journey into Mystery #84, the September of 1962. She is best known as love-interest to Thor who eventually takes up the mantle of The Mighty Thor.
History[]
Background[]
Dr. Jane Foster was an astronomer and astrophysicist who frequently worked with astrophysicist Doctor Erik Selvig. In 2011, the two travelled to the the New Mexico town of Puente Antiguo in New Mexico to study a rare weather phenomena. This phenomena turned out to be created by the bifrost of Asgard opening to send Thor Odinson to Earth in exile by his father Odin.
Selvig's team took Thor in during which time Foster and Thor started a romance. Thor educated Foster on the science known to Asgard of teleportation and different realms which ancient humans misidentified as magic. This lead to Jane publishing the Foster Theory which explained the nine realms of Yggdrasil in astrophysics while also being considered the world's foremost mind in Asgardian culture and history.
Tomorrowland[]
Around 2012/2013, Jane opened an exhibit on Asgardian culture in Tomorrowland, California's Expo Centre. This exhibition was arranged by Odin to promote peace between Midgard and Asgard following Loki's attack on New York, while overlapping with the Dark Elves and Malekith the Accursed plotting to plunge the world into darkness using the Aether. Jane was an ally to Thor in foiling Malekith's schemes, while her exhibit included artifacts such as: the Book of Yggdrasil, Malekith's dark matter dagger, a Dark Elf mask, an Asgardian skiff toy, weapons of Lady Sif, the Einherjar & the Warriors Three, helmet of Heimdall, Loki's helm, shackles & dagger, and the Bifrost portal to Asgard's palace.
The Mighty Thor[]
By around the 2020s, Jane became worthy of Thor's now cracked hammer Mjölnir and used it to take up the Thor mantle. With the hammer reassembling at her command and touch, she became the Mighty Thor, reunited with Thor, and was amongst the superheroes who visited Avengers Campus in Orange, California and Avengers Campus in Paris, France. It is likely that she and Thor joined forces to fight the alien Gorr the God Butcher.
