"Excelsior!" ― Stan Lee

Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) (1922-2018) is a historic American comic book writer, editor, publisher, and producer.

History[]

Fictional biography[]

The being portrayed by Stan Lee was an attendant of the Stark Expo outside of Tomorrowland in Hong Kong during the 2010s. While here, Lee assisted Stark Industries in preparing a safety demonstration video for boarding the Iron Wing Mark VIII.

Years later, when the Collector took his teleporting fortress to the Avengers Campus in Orange, California, Lee was seemingly a guest of the fortress. While attending the attraction, he was kidnapped by the Tivan Group and put on display in the collector's fortress. Lee presumably broke out of the fortress when Rocket Raccoon arranged, "Mission: BREAKOUT!".

This being was also captain of the Avengers' mobile base when it was attacked by Loki, Red Skull and HYDRA.

Real-world history[]

Stanley Martin Lieber (later changed to Stan Lee) was a Jewish-American comic-book writer who worked for Marvel Comics during the silver-age of comics. When DC comics revived the superhero sub-genera, Lee was amongst the creators tasked with creating titles to mirror those of DC comics. However, in 1961, Lee co-created a team called The Fantastic Four with comic-books legend Jack Kirby which defied and subverted the expected archetypal superhero tropes of the time.

The popularity of the Fantastic Four lead to the Marvel renaissance and Lee's promotion to primary creative leader at Marvel Comics. During this time, Lee created, co-created and oversaw several new characters and stories which followed the formulas presented by the Fantastic Four.

Appearances and allusions[]

Avengers Campus[]

There is a plaque celebrating Stan Lee at Avengers Campus.[2] It reads:

"We dedicate Avengers Campus to the incomparable Stan Lee.

“That person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt a real superhero.”

Thank you, Stan, for inspiring the hero within each of us. You have made us all True Believers."

Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT![]

Lee appears in the video showing the exhibitions of the Collector's fortress' inner-sanctum. He is shown asking if anyone at the fortress can validate his parking-ticket.

Hollywoodland[]

Trivia[]

  • Lee's tribute in Rogers: The Musical is somewhat out of place as while he did some work for Captain America, he did not create the character. He also was on the side of Marvel Characters Incorporated in 1966 and 1967 which took Captain America's co-creator Joe Simon (1913-2011)'s legal rights or royalties for the characters which he co-created (under a non-Marvel company), and which was largely responsible for comic-book creators throughout history not being given legal-rights nor royalties for the characters and stories which they create.
