Doreen Green AKA Squirrel Girl is a Marvel Comics superhero who first appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes vol. 2 #8 in 1991.

History

Doreen Green was an eccentric engineer who studied computer-science at the Empire State University in New York City. She specialized in the creation of neural network designing, predictive logic A.I. developing, and was a, "Squirrel Whisperer", even coming to have a pet squirrel called, "Tippy Toe". Doreen was amongst those recruited for the Worldwide Engineering Brigade of Avengers Campus in Orange, California.

In W.E.B.'s ranks, she travelled to Paris, and Hong Kong alongside fellow member Harley Keener. She also developed an app called, "SQUEAKEN", which would allow people to communicate with squirrels. Influenced by the design of the Iron Wing, would team up with WEB members Peter Parker, Harley Keener, Onome and Lunella Lafayette to create the, "Web Slinger" vehicles. Doreen's primary contribution was integrating W.E.B.'s A.I. assistant, "S.H.A.R.I.N." into the Web Slingers.

Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure

Doreen is referenced throughout this attraction as being one of the developers behind the Web Slingers and the Spider-Bots. Photographs of her and her equipment appear throughout the queue. On Peter's white-board of Spider-Bot designs, she left the note, "This is Nuts!! Love it!! -Doreen". Her locker appears between those of Rick Jones and Onome while being decorated by art of dandelions, leaves and acorns.

There is a feeder for Squirrel Girl's squirrel, "Tippy-Toe". One of the shelves used by WEB is labelled, "Squirrel Food".

Trivia

• Doreen's bicycle has, "Unbeatable" on it, referencing her prefix, "The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl".
• In the queue is a bottle of, "Monkey Joe's Nu-Glue". In the comics, Monkey Joe was the first squirrel that Doreen trained.
• A photo in the queue shows Doreen and Harley outside of Hong Kong Disneyland's Iron Man Experience.
• The name of Doreen's squirrel communication app, "SQUEAKEN" may be a reference to the Disney film The Emperor's New Groove (2000). In this film, the character Kronk is able to communicate with squirrels by speaking sounds like, "Squeaken".
• Squirrel Girl was co-created by Steve Ditko (1927-2018), who also co-created Spider-Man. Her pet Tippy-Toe was created by Dan Slott who also created the Spider-Bots.
• The photo of Doreen outside of the Eiffel Tower references the Paris version of Web-Slingers, Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure.
• Squirrel Girl's ID is DEEN-011001 with DEEN being an abbreviation of Doreen. The number 1's presence may reference her having first appeared in 1991.
• In the W.E.B. of Spider-Man comics, Doreen has much more distinct buck-teeth than she does in the ride.
