Spider-Bots are robotic antagonists in the attraction Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure, created in the parks to be sold as over-priced merchandise with the attraction as an effective advertisement for them. They were originally created for the comics by writer Dan Slott and artist Ryan Stegman in Superior Spider-Man #2, the January of 2013.

Description[]

"Spider-Bots" are small robots with limited A.I. that are modelled after spiders. The robots had eight legs, automated by electroactive polymer, "Muscles" and equipped with a plasma deconstruction and reconstruction tool, allowing them to tear apart matter in order to make replicas of themselves. The robots had four eyes equipped with infrared lasers, designed to make and process 3D scans of their environments.

History[]

Origins[]

Spider-Bots were designed by Peter Parker during his time in Avengers Campus California's Worldwide Engineering Brigade.

Open House[]

Peter showed off the Spider-Bots at an open house, intended to present the automated vehicles of Project: SL1NG//R. During Peter's presentation, the Spider-Bots began replicating out of control and spread throughout Avengers Campus, with the threat of destroying it. Several Spider-Bots became exposed to Alien Fluid and Pym Particles which they duplicated with, creating dangerous variants of themselves.

Peter changed into his Spider-Man suit and recruited attendees of the open house to assist him in stopping the Spider-Bots and saving the campus. Peter lead the guests in Web-Slingers through Avengers Campus' underground utilidoors to stop the Spider-Bots. This took them into the PYM Tech lab base, Collector's Fortress, and Avengers Quinjet hangar while leaving a trail of webs and robot parts wherever they went. Ultimately, Spider-Man was successful but had to clean up the mess with other Spider-Bots, and tried hiding the event from Iron Man.

Avengers Campus Paris[]

Some Spider-Bots, at least in Avengers Campus Paris, might have went rogue and escaped on different incidents where they terrorized locations such as Mission Equipment and the PYM Kitchen. On the night of one of these incidents, they were observed by Captain America's drone Redwing and identified as, "Intruders". Spider-Man saw Redwing and requested its assistance in hunting down and stopping one of the Spider-Bots. After searching throughout different locations at the campus, Redwing found it within the PYM Kitchen leading to its destruction, being seen crushed under the boot of Captain Marvel.

Trivia[]

  • In the comics, Spider-Bots were created by Spider-Man's reformed enemy Dr. Otto "Doctor Octopus" Octavius after he switched bodies with Peter and after absorbing his memories, became the morally-ambiguous superhero, "The Spectacular Spider-Man". Otto used the Spider-Bots to survey New York, having them transmit footage and data to his suit's lenses and phone while controlling the robots with his mind. Otto also developed larger versions for combat called, "Arachnaughts".
  • In the queue, a Spider-Bot fiddles with a lamp, referencing Pixar's Luxo Jr..
  • While generally seen as cute, the Spider-Bots have also garnered contempt by ride-goers due to omitting letting guests fight any members of Spider-Man's classic rogues gallery such as the Vulture, Doctor Octopus, Kingpin or Mysterio, in favour of blatant, "Cutesy" marketing from Disney.
  • The Spider-Bots are an extension of the park continuity version of Peter Parker seeming completely inept at maintaining his secret-identity.
  • The screen identifies the Spider-Bot which knocked over the alien fluid as, "Spider-Bot Prototype Duplicate X355".

  • In 2024, a miniature Pizza Planet truck from Toy Story was added to WEB, made to resemble a Spider-Bot as part of "Pixar Fest".[2]
