89P13 or Rocket Raccoon is former bounty hunter and member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

History[]

Background[]

Rocket Raccoon was an inhabitant of Halfworld who resembles an anthropomorphic raccoon. Scientists deemed him , "89P13" and used him for torturous experiments which increased his intelligence and left him with cybernetic implants. Rocket went on to become a bounty-hunter and mercenary, often accompanied by the alien plant, "Groot". The two were infamous criminals with Rocket being notorious for breaking out of every prison he was placed in.

Guardians of the Galaxy[]

Around Earth's 2014, Rocket and Groot would both become allies with Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax the Destroyer, becoming the Guardians of the Galaxy. Together, the Guardians teamed up with the Nova Corps and Ravagers to save the planet Xandar from the mad Kree, Ronan the Accuser. During the fight, Groot sacrificed himself but had his remains saved by Rocket to be regrown.

After this, the Guardians received pardons and would go on to travel the universe as anti-heroes in Star Lord's ship The Milano. Rocket also cared for Groot's remains and regrew him into his adult self. Following their defeat of Ronan the Accuser, the Guardians appeared on the Xandarian broadcast Good Morning Xandar for interviews. Rocket appeared, claiming to be the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy while tormenting Star-Lord behind his back, called out only by Groot who joined the broadcast.

Cosmic Rewind[]

The Guardians of the Galaxy were contacted again by the Nova Corps when one of their ships in Earth's orbit was attacked by the Celestial, Eson the Searcher who stole their Cosmic Generator. As the ship had no power, Rocket suggested that they use Terrans being transported from EPCOT to follow Eson the Searcher in Starjumpers while the Guardians assisted from The Milano.

The Guardians and the Terrans followed Eson the Searcher through a portal leading to the Big Bang and pursued throughout events of cosmic history. Ultimately, Eson was trapped in an energy net created by various Star Blaster ships of the Nova Corps. After this, the Terrans returned to EPCOT and the Guardians sent them hologram messages, thanking them and naming them (honorary) members of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Mission: BREAKOUT![]

When Star-Lord lead the guardians into a trap at the Tivan Collection at some point after 2019, the Guardians were captured by its proprietor Taneleer Tivan AKA "The Collector" and put on display. They were all put in tanks with Rocket being humiliated, referred to only as, "Subject 89P13" and the team's, "Pet Rodent". When the fortress docked in the Avengers Campus of Orange, California, Rocket briefly escaped and sent out an SOS call in a California vacation ad before being recaptured.

When visitors came to answer Rocket's signal, he once again escaped from his tank and met with them in the Collector's office. Rocket had them assist him by boarding the Collector's gantry lifts while he hot-wired the fortress' generator to Star-Lord's walkman, causing everything to be released while music blasted. At some point during the breakout, Rocket was seemingly called by Tony Stark requesting the Guardians' assistance in fighting off Kree missiles which Rocket refused and hung-up on. The guardians were freed and escaped within the Milano, piloted by Guardians member Mantis.

Monsters After Dark[]

After finally escaping Tivan, the Guardians realize that they accidentally left Groot behind. Rocket went back to the museum which was in darkness and highly dangerous due to prowling creatures. His new plan involved using trapped guests as distractions for the monsters while he found Groot. When they successfully retrieve Groot, Rocket finally left the Museum.
