Johann Schmidt AKA The Red Skull is a Marvel Comics super-villain, first appearing in Captain America Comics #1 in 1941 and as Johann Schmidt in Captain America Comics #7, also in 1941. He is a hatred obsessed nazi who leads the organization HYDRA and has a mutated head, resembling a red skull.

History[]

Background[]

Johann Schmidt is a nazi leader who became a leader of HYDRA and nemesis of Captain America. The two fought aboard an experimental aircraft where Red Skull attempted to use the Tesseract to bomb the states. Cap defeated Red Skull who disappeared as Captain America crashed the aircraft into the arctic ocean.

After World War 2, Red Skull survived into modern-day and was considered to be amongst S.H.I.E.L.D.'s most wanted. Around this period, Red Skull came into possession of an Asgardian relic known as the Casket of Ancient Winters.

Stark Expo Paris[]

At some point, he promised the casket in a trade with Loki for Loki to steal a newly unveiled Vibranium powered Arc Reactor unveiled in Paris by Tony Stark. During this event, the villains crossed paths with Thor, Spider-Man and Black Widow. After Loki used the casket to defeat these heroes, Red Skull used the stolen Arc Reactor to power the casket and betray Loki, beating him to the floor.

Red Skull's plans were however foiled by Captain Marvel who was contacted by Black Widow. Captain Marvel overpowered the nazi and blasted him with energy, disintegrating him.
