"You're never too small to visit the Quantum Realm" ― Travel slogan

The Quantum Realm‏ (known as the Microverse in the comics) is a location from Marvel Comics which is affiliated with Ant-Man, the Wasp, and the Fantastic Four franchise (most notably through the villain, "Psycho-Man").

Description[]

The Quantum Realm is a plain of existence which exists on a sub-atomic level. Shrinking devices such as Pym Particles or Quantum Tunnel can allow for travel to the Quantum Realm though it is considered dangerous. Sub-atomic organisms live in the Quantum Realm such as the gelatinous Veb.

History[]

Background[]

The Quantum Realm is a mysterious sub-atomic dimension which some accessed through Pym based shrinking technologies. It may have been where Hank Pym's wife Janet van Dyne disappeared on a mission before returning by the 2020s. Around the 2010s, it was studied by the likes of Scott Lang who taught a class on the realm at the Super Hero Academy. Scott Lang was assisted in his studies by fellow Avengers such as Dr. Bruce Banner. A tourism travel service was seemingly later offered to visit the Quantum Realm, which was at least accessible to the people of Epcot.

Appearances[]

Avengers Campus (Disney California Adventure)[]

Hulk's presence in a high-tech suit is explained by exposition that he is assisting Pym Tech in studying the Quantum Realm.

Doctor Strange: Mysteries of the Mystic Arts[]

The Quantum Realm is featured on the Cabinet of Caballero's map.

Oogie Boogie Bash[]

The presence and depiction of Zombie Captain America is derived from the What If...? series' reimagining of Marvel Zombies where the Quantum Realm afflicted earth with a zombie virus.

PYM Test Kitchen[]

To promote Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the test kitchen sold cauldrons of Veb's ooze.

Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel[]

The Quantum Realm is indirectly referenced through a photo-op which features a Quantum Tunnel.[2]

Disney Traders[]

A travel banner for the Quantum Realm is hung up in this EPCOT shop.

Marvel Super Hero Academy[]

Scott Lang is identified as teaching a class on the Quantum Realm.[3]

Trivia[]

  • Unlike in the comics, basic logic behind Pym Particle users being able to access the Quantum Realm does not make sense in the MCU. In the comics, Pym Particles transfer matter between dimensions in-order to augment height, while in the MCU it decreases the space between atoms which would not allow for anything exposed to become subatomic.
  • It is unclear if time in the Quantum Realm works differently as it did in Avengers: Endgame (but seemingly not Ant-Man: Quantumania).
  • In Avengers: Quantum Encounter, Ultron is defeated by being shrunken to a quantum level, presumably sending him to the Quantum Realm.
  • A Tardigrade is shown on the travel poster. Tardigrades are a microscopic organism, however not sub-atomic.
