This article is on the real-world restaurant. For the fictional location see, PYM Test Kitchen (location).

The PYM Test Kitchen is a dining service in Disneyland's Avengers Campus.

History[]

Backstory[]

The PYM Test Kitchen was originally a base for the Pym Labs of the company Pym Technologies in an industrial complex run by Stark Industries where Pym Tech developed their, "Pym Particles" which could grow and shrink matter. In modern day, this complex was turned into an outpost for, "Superheroes" such as Ant-Man and the Wasp, the successors of Pym Tech founder, Hank Pym. Ant-Man's daughter, Cassie Lang was a member of the nearby Worldwide Engineering Brigade and had an idea to use Pym Particles to grow and shrink foods in an effort to solve world hunger and reduce food-waste.[1] The Pym Labs base was converted into the, "Pym Test Kitchen" to test out this plan.

Summary[]

This is a themed restaurant with a gimmick for serving foods modelled after enlarged and shrunken meal items. There is also the, "PYM Tasting Lab" which serves alcoholic beverages.

Trivia[]

  • Ironically, as Pym Particles are not real the Walt Disney Company produces higher quantities of food-waste due to this restaurant's enlarged food gimmick.
  • The texts which Scott and Hope receive from other characters identifies the restaurant as experienced by guests as taking place after the events of Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure, before the events of Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!, and during the construction of Avengers Campus Paris.
  • Artwork on the wall depicts Ant-Man fighting the HYDRA robots of Arnim Zola as he does in the attraction Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! in Hong Kong Disneyland.
  • The giant ketchup and mustard bottle come from, "Bountiful Valley Farm". This is a tribute to the Bountiful Valley Farm area of Disney California Adventure which Avengers Campus took up space of.[2]. The year of establishment is also 2001, when the park was made.
  • There is a massive beer-can labelled, "Silver Age" est. 1956.[3] This is a reference to the Silver Age of Comics, a period of comic-book history where the censorship group the Comics Code Authority, fallout of World War II and rising threat of the cold war caused comic generas to be bottle-necked towards campy, child-oriented, often science-fiction super-heroes. It was this period when Marvel rose to fame.
    • The flavour is, "Chitauran Charged", a reference to the aliens from the Avengers.
  • The menus outdoors are made to resemble the enlarged phones of Ant-Man and the Wasp and will receive texts from other Marvel characters.[4][5]
  • One of the giant soda cans is Pingo Doce, a fictional soda company which Bruce Banner worked for while in hiding and accidentally contaminated with his gamma irradiated blood.
  • In both the comics and the films, applying PYM Particles to food and drink would be problematic due to prolonged exposure to them sometimes causing insanity in their users.
  • The giant Christmas-lights are repurposed from the gates of A Bug's Land.[6]
