Behind the scenes[]
Miles Morales is the second Spider-Man from the Ultimate Marvel universe whose popularity came to challenge that of Peter Parker.
Marvel Comics[]
Miles Morales comes from the alternate universe of Earth-1610 where Spider-Man AKA Peter Parker got his powers from a genetically engineered spider created by S.H.I.E.L.D. and Norman Osborn. When Norman was arrested for his crimes, one of his spiders escaped and bit Miles which gave him similar powers to Spider-Man along which some that Peter did not possess. Upon discovering these powers, Miles chose to ignore them as he didn't yet accept the great responsibility given to him by his great powers.
Miles finally became Spider-Man following Peter Parker's death at the hands of the Green Goblin. Miles' plans were however complicated by his father being an anti-Spider-Man police-officer/SHIELD agent. Miles also often fought with his own paternal uncle Aaron Davis AKA The Prowler, a thief turned super-villain that used stolen technology and weaponry. One of Miles' regular allies was Spider-Woman AKA Jessica Drew, a clone of Peter Parker who transitioned into a woman and often aided Miles in realizing his powers and position as a hero.
When the multiverse was threatened by the villainous sorcerer Morlun, Miles was one of many Spider-People summoned from across the multiverse to fight the inter-dimensional threat. During these events, Miles became close with the main reality Peter Parker and in the future would often travel to his universe. In this Peter's reality, Miles would become a high-ranking member of the Young Avengers.
Marvel Cinematic Universe[]
Miles Morales is the nephew of petty criminal Aaron "The Prowler" Davis. Keeping Miles safe motivates the Prowler to buy illegal weapons from Adrian Toomes AKA The Vulture.
Trivia[]
- Miles' locker in Web Slingers references the 2018 hit non-Disney marvel film Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. The art style of the locker is made to reference the film's aesthetics and artwork which Miles creates in the film. The spaceman floating upwards on the locker references Miles falling upwards on the film's poster and in its iconic, "Leap of faith" scene while the arrows around the spaceman's head reference how spider-senses are visualized in the film.
- One of the primary criticisms of Peter Parker in the MCU (inspiring the depiction featured in the parks) has been that he appropriates many personality traits and story beats from Miles Morales.
- Miles Morales and the Chitauri are both characters originating from the Ultimate Universe of Marvel Comics to be referenced in the parks.
- In the comics, Miles is a member of the superhero team, "The Champions", a team indirectly referenced in Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure by WEB's character roster.
