Mantis a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, a team of interstellar anti-heroes.

History[]

Background[]

Mantis is an empath alien who was in the service of her Celestial father, Ego the Living Planet. Mantis was treated like a pet by her father, and had the duty of using her empath powers to put him to sleep.

Mantis defected from Ego to join with the Guardians of the Galaxy and prevent Ego from taking over the universe. After this, Mantis became a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy and travelled with them in their ship, The Milano.

Mission: BREAKOUT![]

During an encounter with The Collector, Mantis and the rest of the Guardians were captured and put on display in the Collector's Fortress in Avengers Campus California. Mantis managed to evade capture causing the Collector to put a bounty of one million units on her head. Trapped Guardian Rocket Raccoon managed to escape, contact Mantis in The Milano for a pickup and tamper with the electrical systems of the fortress to free the Guardians.

During the breakout, the Guardians escaped on The Milano piloted by Mantis who also saved the captured Cosmo the Spacedog. Mantis' further fate is unknown.

Awesome Dance Off[]

Star-Lord brought Mantis to Earth for the first time, outside of the collector's fortress in Avengers Campus. Here, the two used an, "Awesome Dance Off" to try and recruit new guardians, before leaving with Rocket.

Mantis' wanted poster appears in the outdoor queue, and rolled up in the Collector's office. She appears in the Milano, saving the Guardians later in the ride.

Trivia[]

  • During talks for Disney Cast members to join the Actors Equity Union, a cast-member who performed Mantis has described that the black contact lenses which Disney made her wear as Mantis for ten hour shifts resulted in her eyes becoming stained.[1]
