History[]
Background[]
Origins[]
The Collector's Fortress is the teleporting fortress of the evil Taneleer Tivan and the Tivan Group which ran an amoral collection and sometimes kidnapped its own tourists. When Tony Stark planned the Global Avengers Initiative in 2019, Tivan contacted the Avengers and promised to bring his fortress to Avengers Campus California and educate Earth's populace on his collection.[3] He send a tanked Vyloo to an expo presenting the initiative to show this.
Mission: BREAKOUT[]
While in the Campus, the Collector sent out various spam texts for promotions in the general area. During residency in Avengers Campus, the fortress was overrun by the rogue, "Spider-Bots" of W.E.B. member Peter Parker who used his Spider-Man moniker to infiltrate the fortress via the campus' utilidoors, and pacify the robots in webbing. The Collector contacted Avengers member Scott Lang AKA Ant-Man and stated that he liked Scott's ideas and wanted to discuss them over, "Sakaaran Cold Brew". It was likely that this was a trap set up by the Collector though the outcome of this incident is unknown.
Tivan invited Star-Lord of the Guardians of the Galaxy to attend with promise of a free tour. Tivan proceeded to kidnap the guardians for his collection and put them on display as his main attraction but failed in capturing their fellow member, Mantis. During their imprisonment, Star-Lord and Gamora sent messages for help to Avengers member Wasp while Rocket managed to send out an S.O.S. signal to the California area.
After escaping containment, Rocket Raccoon debriefed these contacts in the Collector's Office and orchestrated a plan to knock-out the fortress' generators by connecting it to Star-Lord's Walkman and using their guest ID hand-scans to hack into the system. This released all of the creatures in the Collector's possession while the Guardians escaped in their ship the Milano as piloted by Mantis, accompanied by Cosmo the Space-Dog but not realizing that they forgot Baby Groot.
Monsters After Dark[]
The monsters of the facility proceeded to run amok and cause carnage in the powered-down facility. Various Tivan Group workers attempted to recapture the creatures as the monsters preyed on the fortress' inhabitants. During this time, the ghost of outlaw guardians ally Yondu Udonta was spotted wandering the hallways. Rocket Raccoon returned to the fortress to find Baby Groot and had a group of tourists act as bait and distractions from within the Gantry Lifts as Rocket did so. The tourists were terrorized by the Fire Dragon before escaping while Rocket and Groot did likewise.
Awesome Dance Off[]
By the time Groot regrew from a baby to an adult, Star-Lord had the Guardians return to the fortress to take back his boombox (though he did not tell Gamora this). Quill retrieved the boombox from a box outside of the fortress in Avengers Campus only for him and Gamora to realize that the Collector was tracking their body-heat signatures. Star-Lord then used the boombox to play music for nearby Terrans to dance to in order to overload the Collector's sensors while he and Gamora escaped.
The further fate of the Collector's Fortress remains unknown.
Development history[]
The Collector's Fortress was created from the building for the fan-favourite defunct attraction, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror where it was themed to the haunted Hollywood Tower Hotel. The building was given more of a science-fiction/Jack Kirby aesthetic to be repurposed for Mission: Breakout.
